Preparing Windows


  • Computer Name.


Right-click on "This Pc" on the desktop and select "Properties".



Click "Change Settings" on the right-hand side.



Click "Change…" at the bottom. 



In most cases, you need to rename the computer to "SERVER".


In the case of there being multiple servers on the same network, please rename each server so that the first three letters of the Brand Name are prefixed to the front of SERVER. For example, in the case of the brand being "MACDONALDS", the server name will then be "MACSERVER"

The workgroup must remain as WORKGROUP. 



  • Windows User Accounts.


You need to activate the disabled Administrator account. 

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management

Open "Local Users and Groups" on the left and then select "Users".



Right-click the Administrator account and select "Set Password…".    



Set the password to C0s0ft



Right-click on the Administrator Account and select Properties.    

Untick "Account is disabled".



Click the "Member Of" tab at the top and add a group called Users. 



Create a new account called "Admin" and enter the same password and put the user into the same two groups "Administrators" and "Users"


  • Windows File Permissions.


Log in to the Administrator user account.


Before installing Aura, you must manually create a folder called "Alphapos" in the following location:

This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86)



Right-click the "Alphapos" folder and click on "Properties" then click on the "Sharing" tab.



On the "Sharing" tab click on "Advanced Sharing..." and tick the box to "Share this folder" 



Then click on "Permissions", select Everyone and Allow Full Control. 

Then click "OK".



Then click on the "Security" tab.



Click on "Advanced" at the bottom.

Then click on "Disable Inheritance" at the bottom.



Choose "Convert inherited permission into explicit permission on this object".



Select "Users (PCNAME\Users)" under the Permissions tab then click "Edit".



Then make sure "Full Control" is ticked. Then click "OK".



Once you have clicked on okay, Tick the box "Replace all child object permissions..." at the bottom of the tab.



Click "Yes" to continue.



  • Registry Permissions.


While logged into the Administrator user account.


Before installing Aura, open "Regedit". To do this on the keyboard press the Windows Key + R. 

Type "Regedit" and click "OK"



Create a key called "Alphapos" in the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > WOW6432Node



Once you are in the WOW6432Node folder, on the right-hand side, right-click, click on "New" then "Key"



Once you have created "New Key #1" rename it to "Alphapos".

Right-click the Alphapos folder and select "Permissions..."



Then click on the "Security" tab.



Click on "Advanced" at the bottom.

Then click on "Disable Inheritance" at the bottom.



Choose "Convert inherited permission into explicit permission on this object".



Select "Users (PCNAME\Users)" under the Permissions tab then click "Edit".



Then make sure "Full Control" is ticked. Then click "OK".



Once you have clicked on okay, Tick the box "Replace all child object permissions..." at the bottom of the tab.



Click "Yes" to continue.



  • Regional Settings.


Open Control Panel and click on "Region".

After making changes to any regional settings Click "Apply".




Click "Additional setting..." at the bottom.



On the Numbers tab change the following:

  • Decimal symbol: (Full Stop) " .
  • Digital grouping symbol: (comma) " , "




On the Currency tab change the following:

  • Decimal symbol: (Full Stop) " .
  • Digital grouping symbol: (comma) " , "



On the Time tab make sure it's the same as the picture below:



On the Date tab change the following:

  • Set the Short Date Format to yyyy-MM-dd



Once you have made all the changes and applied them, go back to Region settings and click on the Administrative tab.

Click on "Copy Settings"



Then tick the boxes for:

  • Welcome screen and system accounts
  • New user accounts



Then click "OK".


Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express


  • Installation.


Download SQL Server 2012 Express here.


You must be logged into the Windows Administrator user account before continuing.

Run the install file and select "New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation".



Read and accept the license terms then click Next.



Then tick the box "Include SQL Server product updates" then click Next
